(video coming soon)
I pre-ordered my Sony A7riv the moment I heard of it and got it delivered in september 2019 on the day I was traveling to South Korea. After a year of heavy use it has still not let me down. One of my favorite cameras sofar.
My main usage of the a7riv is for art-, dance- and theater- film and photo productions. Dance-films, art-films, documenting performances, making promotion videos and photos for different art pieces.

I mostly work with the battery-grip (SONY VG-C4EM) – attached, and I rarely use even more than 50% of one of the batteries per shooting day. Main reason to use the battery grip is because it gives the camera a much better grip when working for hours at a time it is much more pleasurable handling. The grip is quite expensive, but working daily with a camera it is an important priority to make it fit your hand in a good manner. Or else you have to tense your hands and fingers way too much for many hours a day and it will eventually influence the your pictures in a negative way and potentially give you overload injuries in hands, arms and shoulders.
The camera-body is not heavy in it self, but the lenses are full-frame lenses and just as all other full-frame lenses they are very heavy.
For stills my favorite lens is the Sony 70-200mm f2.8. Its my goto when photographing stills. I love the look of the pictures from it. My stills b-camera is the A7Riii coupled with the 24-70mm f2.8. With those two cameras and lenses I have a reach from 24-200 total on f2.8 witch is amazing.
I also use the 16-35mm alot, mostly when filming on a gimbal (Ronin S)
Ive had the camera for about a year it this point. And it is my favorite Sony camera for stills and video of all time. It gives me superb photos and very nice video. I would like to have better video on it, like 4.2.2 10bit. But maybe that is coming on the next A7siii? Lets hope. It is also a bit pity that when photographing in uncompressed the fps drops down to about 8 fps. I would love to have it at 10 like the A7RIII.
My earlier setup was A7RIII as an A-cam and a6400 as a B-cam, the reason for upgrading was first and foremost that the a7riv did not have a restriction of 30 min video record limit. Since I film a lot of hour long perfomances, I often forget to restart recording on the A7riii after 30 min. And usually end up with a few minutes ap in the recording. Of course theres a workaround with an Atomos recorder, and Ive done that a lot, but the setup eventually became too bulky for everyday working. So a7riv was a perfect newcommer. The second reason was that they launched the new digital mic with the A7riv. And to go from a battery powered mic to a inhouse powered mic was fantastic (SONY ECM B1M) . I used the Røde Video mic pro plus as my main mic, which is great and has a very long battery life. But to never have to remember to charge the mic again was so relieving. It was a nightmare to forget to charge a mic before a shoot and not have any proper sound. So Im very happy they released this high quality microphone.
